Crete is the largest Greek island and offers a mixture of culture and relaxing beach holiday, along with day trips to the Samaria gorge and the amazing ruined palace of Knossos. Holidays in Greece can give a fascinating insight into the culture of ancient Greece; in Athens you can take a trip to see The Parthenon, which is the greatest surviving monument of Doric architecture. The island of Corfu is the best known of the seven Ionian islands that lie off the north-west coast of Greece, with popular resorts such as Paleokastritsa, Kavos and Sidari. Families find Corfu appealing, with its safe beaches, resorts and hotels with plenty of convenient facilities. Another side of Greece, away from the package holidaymaker resorts, is the quaint villages, charming deserted beaches and beautiful lush green mountains.
